The message behind Duchess Kate’s jewelry

The service honoring the Commonwealth is a firm fixture in the royal annual calendar. The Queen canceled, but did not have to worry about a worthy replacement: Her grandson William and his wife Kate handled the appointment in their usual professional manner, with the Duchess becoming an eye-catcher not only because of her choice of color.

Hut, Mantel, Schmuck, Schuhe – Duchess Kate hatte alles perfekt aufeinander abgestimmt.

Duchess Kates Schmuck als Solidaritätsbekundung

And not only that: Behind the choice of her jewelry is said to be a solidarity message to Ukraine, as various media report. The reason: Kate is said to have worn the sparkling diamond earrings and sapphire necklace only on one other occasion, namely at a meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and his wife, First Lady Olena Zelenska, in 2020.

The slim-fitting wool coat with button placket and lapel collar came from Catherine Walker, one of the Duchess’s favorite labels, according to the well-informed fashion blog "What Kate wore". The hat, also cobalt blue, was a creation of the famous British milliner Sean Barrett, and the shoes were by Rupert Sanderson.

The Queen had cancelled at short notice

The service in honor of the Commonwealth Commonwealth, at which the Queen was represented not only by William and Kate but also by her son Prince Charles (73), is actually one of the fixed entries in her calendar. Her participation had Königin Elizabeth II. on Friday evening at short notice and without giving any further reasons canceled – after it had been officially confirmed only two days earlier. 1500 guests were invited to Westminster Abbey, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

In a written message to those attending the service, the queen was her usual ironclad self: she renewed the promise to the people of the Commonwealth, first made in 1947, to devote their entire lives to serving their subjects.
