How long does nail polish take to dry?
Whether it’s a chic nail design for short nails or eye-catching stiletto nails, a pretty manicure completes our outfits perfectly. How long does nail polish take to dry? Unfortunately, there is no blanket answer to this and the drying time depends on different factors. While most manufacturers recommend a certain waiting time, this information is not always really correct. Depending on whether it’s a quick-drying, commercial or UV nail polish, the times will also vary. In general, though – the thinner we apply the nail polish, the faster it dries. While one layer is usually dry after about 5 minutes, the second layer sometimes takes up to 15 minutes and the third even 30 minutes. So, to save more time and for the nail polish to dry faster, it is best to apply 2 thin layers.

If you are also tired of waiting for a long time, then you should definitely try the following tips that will help you dry your nail polish faster.
Dry nail polish faster with cold water
Okay – especially in winter, this method would not be very pleasant. But an ice bath is actually one of the most effective tips to dry nail polish faster. The cold ensures that the varnish hardens in a few minutes and can do away with quick help in an emergency. And it works as simple as this:
- Fill a large bowl with ice-cold water and add a few ice cubes.
- Paint the nails as usual and then let them dry slightly for 1-2 minutes.
- Now dip the hands in the bowl for another 3-4 minutes and the nail polish is dry.
- Alternatively, running water from the tap can also help. But to avoid small scratches, you should make sure that the pressure is not too high.
Drying nail polish with hairspray
A hairspray ensures that our complicated hairstyles stay in place all day. What works for our hair, logically works for our hands. Drying nail polish faster with spray – sounds a bit strange at first glance, but it can actually work wonders. The alcohol contained in it removes the moisture from the polish, making it completely dry after a few minutes. Spray your fingernails with a little hairspray from a distance of 30 centimeters and repeat the process after 1 minute. Wait for a moment and you are ready to go!
Use a hair dryer
How many times have you blown on your freshly painted nails with the hope that they will dry faster? You’ve definitely noticed that the method doesn’t really work, right? Since we add additional moisture through the breath, the drying time is actually prolonged. What is the fastest way to dry nail polish? With a hair dryer, of course! To do this, set it to the cold setting and hold it on your fingernails for 30-40 seconds. And voilà – that’s how easy it is to dry nail polish faster.
Drying spray or Quick-Dry drops
Quick-Dry drops and drying spray will change your life, or at least as far as your manicure is concerned. They are another great way to make your nail polish dry faster. The products make the solvents evaporate faster, so the nail polish is completely dry in 1 minute or less. Fortunately, quick-dry drops and drying sprays can be found at any drugstore and don’t cost much either. However, to avoid ruining your manicure, don’t spray the spray too close to your nails.
Dry nail polish faster with oil
If you haven’t found Quick-Dry drops, we have a great home remedy for you that is just as effective. You can also dry nail polish faster with conventional olive oil or baby oil. To do this, first put some oil in a small pipette. Paint your fingernails as usual and let them dry for 30 seconds. Then put 2-3 drops of oil on each nail and wait for 2-3 minutes. Carefully remove the excess oil with a tissue and you’re done!
