Tinting your eyebrows is a tricky task, and getting the shade right is crucial to avoid feeling like a stranger yourself. We recommend: Go to a professional – but even if you do, things can still go wrong. Have you dyed your eyebrows too dark? Then you need a quick fix. Don’t worry: Here are tips on how to lighten your eyebrow coloring easily and painlessly.
Lighten your eyebrows in a few steps
Step one? Try not to worry too much. If your new eyebrows are too dark, the first thing you need to know is that your body’s natural oils and your normal shower routine will probably fade the color pretty quickly within the first week.
The second point to consider is the amount of color pigment left on the skin under the hairs of your eyebrows. To remove the excess color from the skin underneath, use an oily (or silicone-based) makeup remover and wipe lightly with a makeup cotton pad. If the cotton pad is left with brown residue, you’re on the right track. Once dry, this should lighten the color by at least one shade.
Scrub your eyebrows with a clarifying shampoo.
A clarifying shampoo is meant to remove residue from your hair, so you can use it to remove color from your eyebrows as well. However, be careful not to get the shampoo in your eyes! Use an eyebrow brush or a new toothbrush to apply the clarifying shampoo to your eyebrows. Wipe it off after 60 seconds and then wash your face as usual to remove all residue.
Eyebrows dyed too dark – this home remedy helps.
If the color still won’t come out or you’ve already waited a while and your eyebrows are still too dark, there is a homemade remedy that some salons also use to remove hair color .
Combine 1 part baking soda and 1 part of your regular shampoo in a small bowl. Stir the mixture until it forms a thick paste. Use a foundation brush to apply this paste to your eyebrows. Rinse the paste off carefully after a few minutes, making sure it doesn’t get into your eyes. You can repeat this process if needed.
Lighten the dark color with lemon juice.
Wash your face in the morning, dip a cotton pad in lemon juice and apply it to your eyebrows. Leave the lemon juice on until you cleanse your face that evening. Spend some time outdoors while the lemon juice is on your eyebrows, as the sun will enhance the lightening effect.
If too dark in color, brush facial toner over your eyebrows
Get a toner from your supermarket or beauty salon. Squirt some toner onto a cotton pad, then gently wipe the cotton pad over your eyebrows to lighten the tint. You can repeat this process as many times as needed, but keep in mind that toner can dry out your skin if it contains alcohol.
Try using eyebrow gel in a lighter color
Choose a colored eyebrow gel , which is at least one shade lighter than the tint. Use an eyebrow brush to lightly sweep the gel over your eyebrows. Make sure to comb through the entire eyebrow to get an even tint. Let the gel dry and repeat the process if you want to further lighten the look of your eyebrows.
Use facial bleach as a last resort.
We don’t recommend doing this yourself, but if you’re ready and the dark color remains stubborn, this could be a last resort. Face bleaches are generally strong hydrogen peroxides for first aid that are pretty safe, but you’ll need to watch your eyes, of course.
Put a few drops on a cotton pad and wipe lightly over your eyebrows. Still, we don’t recommend this and suggest an expert instead – salons have professional decolorizers.
It’s best to turn to the professionals
If your beauty salon caused this drama but you want to try again, think about going to your hair salon. Hair stylists may be a better place to start because of their extensive knowledge on different shades. Better yet, ask them to consult with your beautician for the best results.
Have you permanently colored your eyebrows too dark?
Sometimes microblading can be too dark right after the procedure. For this, it is necessary to simply wait until it heals completely. It will gradually fade and may even disappear during the healing process. This usually takes about 7-14 days.
However, if the permanent makeup has already healed and the brows are still too dark after this time, you can try the following:
Professional procedures such as microdermabrasion and facials with cleansers can help exfoliate the upper layers of the skin and help the body get rid of the pigment naturally. You may need several sessions, but you should notice a significant “lightening” after each session.
