Those who have damaged and brittle hair are constantly on the lookout for suitable products that can put an end to the problem. Hair treatments, conditioners and the like are a great help, but are often not enough to make the hair shine and make it sufficiently supple. And especially if you put additional stress on the hair through tinting, coloring and straightening irons, ultimately there is usually only one solution left and that is to go to the hairdresser, who simply cuts off the split ends. However, since this is usually associated with greater hair loss, many would rather do without it. In addition, even a short time after the cut again split ends are detected, because simply the necessary protective film around the hair is missing. However, you can obtain such a protective film by laminating the hair. What exactly this technique is all about and how you can even do the hair treatment yourself at home, you will learn in this article.

Laminate hair – what is it?

Now you are certainly curious. So what does laminate mean and how is it done? In some hair salons it is offered to laminate the hair. The hair laminating at the hairdresser means nothing else than that they are treated with plastics. Here it must be mentioned that this is not hair care like the hair treatment, but only a trick in which already stressed and broken hair is restored, so to speak. So your hair will not become healthier as a result. However, before laminating, there is a treatment with special care products that contain collagen or keratin. These ingredients fill in breaks in the hair, so to speak, while the polymers, or synthetics, seal it afterwards. This treatment lasts between three to four months. After all, during this time not only new hair grows out, but the care products are also gradually washed out, which is quite normal and unavoidable.

If you want to do the hair laminate yourself, you can even do it at home. For this, you prepare a rinse, for which you use quite ordinary gelatin powder. It is also possible to laminate hair with leaf gelatin. How exactly this works and a helpful recipe can be found below. Gelatin for hair is simply incorporated and after rinsing it remains on the individual hairs, where they protect the structure of the hair and keep it smooth, like a protective cover. The result is a smooth and shiny head of hair that every lady dreams of.

If you want to do it yourself, you can also laminate the hair with agar agar recipes. This is the so-called Japanese gelatin, which, unlike our edible gelatin, is not obtained from animals, but from algae and is therefore purely vegetable. No matter which of the two products you choose, it is best to choose organic products. These do not contain harmful chemicals and thus do the hair much better.

For thick or extra long hair, simply triple the ingredients. Soak the edible gelatin in hot water and let it cool down a bit. In the meantime, wash your hair as usual with shampoo and then with conditioner, rinsing it out. If the gelatin is not yet completely dissolved, you can warm it again in a water bath. Mix the gelatin with the hair conditioner, conditioner or conditioner. This mix is then kneaded into the still damp hair. While doing this, leave out the area on top of the head and start about an inch below the roots.

Pin the hair up and cover it with a shower cap. Alternatively, a plastic bag is also suitable. Then, using a towel and a hair dryer, warm the hair, after which you leave the mask on for about 45 minutes. After that, rinse it out. This works quickly and easily thanks to the conditioner in the gelatin treatment. After drying, the treatment already shows its great effect.

Idea and recipe with additional products

Alternatively, you can also add other products. Egg yolk or herbal teas, honey and olive oil provide the hair with healthy nutrients at the same time and support the gelatin in its task to provide the hair with shine. It is important that you eventually get a relatively thick consistency of the cure. Thus, in 9 g of gelatin powder only one egg yolk, one teaspoon of oil and one tablespoon of honey are added, which is further enriched with three tablespoons of water or herbal tea and one tablespoon of hair mask. A few drops of essential oil again provide a pleasant smell.

Important: While you work the cure into the hair, leave it in the water bath and work as quickly as possible so that the liquid does not gel. Otherwise, it will not be easy to wash out later. For this reason, it is also warmed again on the head with a hair dryer.

How often is it allowed to laminate hair?

It depends on whether you laminated the hair in the salon or independently at home with gelatin. At the salon, the treatment should not be done more often than once a month. After all, chemicals are used, and besides, otherwise it would be quite expensive. If, on the other hand, you make the special conditioner yourself, two to three treatments a month are sufficient and recommended, because the gelatin will be washed out more quickly.

Is the treatment harmful?

Many people ask themselves whether hair laminating is harmful. Neither at the hairdresser nor carried out at home, one must expect any damage. Therefore, one can proceed without hesitation. In principle, gelatin is nothing other than a sealant as it is also achieved with silicones. The only difference is that silicones or the polymers from the hairdresser are artificial and gelatine or agar agar are natural.
