Cheap and sustainable: Buying second-hand clothing is good for the environment and your wallet. In the meantime, you can also store online for second-hand clothing – but there are a few things to keep in mind.
In addition to second-hand online stores run by large companies, there are also numerous online platforms where private individuals offer second-hand clothing. But anyone browsing for bargains on such websites and apps should be particularly attentive, advises the European Consumer Centre Germany (ECC). Before users store online for second-hand clothing, for example, they should read the terms and conditions very carefully, according to the EVZ: When are the operators helpful, when does buyer protection apply and under what conditions?
Otherwise, it could happen that shoppers have to pay the money for the goods and the postage, for example, before they have even received the goods. If no package arrives, they may only be refunded the value of the goods, but not the postage.
Store for second-hand clothing online – Be careful with shipping
Users should be particularly cautious if processing outside the platform and uninsured shipping are offered. If the package does not arrive, the value of the goods is often not refunded and the money is usually gone. Therefore, it makes particular sense to choose insured shipping for high-priced goods. In the best case, customers will then be reimbursed for the value of the goods, the shipping costs and the costs of the existing buyer protection.
Be sure to read the reviews
In the event of problems, however, shoppers must pay attention to deadlines, for example to report defective goods or undelivered packages. They often have to react quickly in order to benefit from buyer protection. Some platforms have very narrow time frames, sometimes as short as two days. It is also worth taking a closer look at the seller’s profile on the platform and paying attention to the ratings of others. Buyers should also use the option to ask additional questions about the product and find out how their data is stored and processed.
