Most of us wouldn’t start our day without a hot cup of coffee. However, the benefits of coffee go beyond the morning pick-me-up, as it can have surprising benefits for your skin and hair. Exfoliating with coffee grounds, for example, can have excellent effects on your skin, and coffee hair scrub or conditioner can be beneficial for the shiny appearance and healthy texture of your hair.
What are the benefits of coffee for our beauty and health?
Coffee is the jewel you never knew you needed for healthy hair, and it’s at the top of the list!
Coffee is full of antioxidants and they help protect the skin from free radical damage. That’s good news for your skin, because antioxidants counteract skin aging.
Some studies have shown that coffee has similar effects on the skin as the anti-aging skin care ingredient hyaluronic acid, and that it can increase collagen and elastin production, making the skin look and feel firmer. Coffee can also help keep skin hydrated by reducing transepidermal water loss.
Exfoliate with coffee grounds as skin care
For a quick and pleasant treatment that will smooth and soften your skin, don’t ditch the coffee grounds. Instead, prepare this simple recipe. However, be careful if you have sensitive skin. Coffee grounds can be quite rough on sensitive skin, so you may want to skip the DIY scrub if your skin is sensitive. And regardless of your skin type, don’t scrub too aggressively. You definitely don’t want to irritate your skin. Redness, stinging, and sensitivity are all signs that you’re overdoing it with the scrub.
To make about 200 ml of body scrub you will need:
60 g of freshly ground coffee (fresh is best, but dry coffee grounds are also suitable).
100 g brown sugar
100 g melted coconut oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Tip: Choose fine coffee grounds, as coarse coffee can be too harsh for sensitive or delicate skin.
Mix together the freshly ground coffee and brown sugar. Add the coconut oil and vanilla extract to the coffee mixture. Mix until everything is well blended. Gently rub the mixture over your body. Leave it on for several minutes. Rinse thoroughly. (Be careful if you use the scrub in the shower, as the oil can make the floor a bit slippery.)
The scrub gives the facial skin shine and freshness.
Every woman wants smooth and glowing facial skin. Try this face mask and you will see the difference! Mix 1/4 teaspoon of coffee grounds (finely ground) with 1 tablespoon of another basic food, such as yogurt.
Gently massage the cream into your face and neck and leave on for five minutes. Then rinse with warm water to get a radiant, soft skin. Do not use the cream more than once or twice a week.
Pleasant exfoliation with coffee grounds for feet.
Feet can tolerate more aggressive exfoliation than other parts of the body. Mix, 20 g coffee grounds, 60 g salt or Epsom salt and 50 g olive oil. Use this mixture as an exfoliant to give your feet a pleasant treatment.
Smoothing the lips with coffee
Dry lips? Mix a small amount of coffee grounds with a blob of coconut oil. Gently massage the mixture into your lips and remove with a damp washcloth.
Soothe puffy eyes
A teaspoon of coffee grounds in a dampened paper towel, placed on the eyes for about 20 minutes, helps relieve puffy eyes.
Exfoliation with coffee grounds for scalp
4 tablespoons of a carrier oil of your choice (coconut or olive preferred).
6 tablespoons of very fine coffee grounds
A few drops of tea tree oil
Mix all ingredients well and store in an airtight container at room temperature. Apply a small amount to the scalp and massage for five to ten minutes, then rinse well and wash the hair with shampoo. This recipe is also great for a facial scrub.
Hair conditioner with coffee prevents hair loss.
Every woman loves it when her curls shine. However, most of them struggle with hair loss. Coffee contains caffeine, which when applied to the scalp, finds a way to the roots and prevents further hair loss. Simply brew strong coffee and let it cool. Shampoo your hair as usual and pour the cooled coffee over your head.
You can place a large bowl under your head to catch the excess and pour it over your head again for extra coverage. Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave on for up to an hour. Rinse with warm water and let air dry or style as usual. This will also help darken the hair (it may not be ideal for women with fair complexions), add shine and strengthen strands.
