Dermaplaning for women: The impressive effects of facial shaving & how to do it yourself

Hair is without question an issue in itself for women… You can’t have enough of it on eyebrows, eyelashes and on the head, while it is annoying and undesirable in all other places. That is why shaving, and therefore facial shaving, plays a big role for women. Have you ever heard about dermaplaning? It is not a novelty, but currently enjoys great popularity both in this country, as well as in the USA and Asia. We will introduce you to dermaplaning and the dermaplaning razor, explain how to shave your face with it, what its advantages and disadvantages are, and what the difference between it and dermablading actually is.

Dermaplaning – What is it?

What is dermaplaning, what is it used for and how can you do it yourself at home?

If you now think of the hated lady’s beard or witch hair, you are mistaken, because this shaving has nothing to do with it. What is dermaplaning then? Instead, one wants to remove the fluff on the face with the treatment. This varies from woman to woman, but everyone can benefit from facial shaving. A special razor for the face is used, which gently removes the fine hairs. Beauty salons have been using this type of razor for a long time and drugstores offer dermaplaning tools for use at home. But why shave facial hair? What are the benefits of doing so?

How does dermaplaning work and what are the benefits?

Dermaplaning removes fine hairs and dead skin flakes

The main purpose of the facial razor is to improve the appearance of the skin. Depending on how pronounced this fine hair is, it causes a dull complexion, because the fluff means that light cannot be reflected by the skin and it does not look as radiant. If you then also apply make-up or similar products, this effect is intensified and the skin looks even more matte.

What is the difference with dermablading as a cosmetic treatment.

Furthermore, pamper your face by removing hair with some kind of exfoliation. In fact, the dermaplaning razor incidentally removes the dead skin cells, which refreshes the skin. This also provides it with better oxygen and nutrients from cosmetic products, which also contributes to a more radiant complexion and rejuvenated skin appearance. Removing dander also prevents clogged pores and reduces blemishes.

Improve the appearance of the skin with dermaplaning - do-it-yourself instructions

Dermaplaning or dermablading?

Both terms are one and the same method. Dermablading only focuses on removing dead skin flakes, and the hairs are automatically removed as well. Dermaplaning, on the other hand, focuses directly on removing the hair from a woman’s face, and conversely, the dead skin cells are also removed.

Dermaplaning instructions: how to use the facial shaver for women.

Perform facial shaving for women in simple steps at home

Have you already got yourself a women’s facial shaver and want to get started right away? Then you should know and pay attention to some things. We explain how to properly remove facial hair with dermaplaning. In addition to the women’s facial razor, set aside a facial cleanser, toner, moisturizer and a sunscreen. It is also advisable to have a magnifying mirror so that you don’t miss out any spots when removing unwanted hair on your face.

Dermaplaning – How to proceed:

Prepare skin for shaving with a thorough cleansing routine

  • The evening is the best time. Remove makeup and thoroughly clean the face. Any irritation caused by the facial razor for women can then subside overnight and until the morning.
  • Take your time, because to avoid scratches or even fine cuts, you need to be able to work calmly and with a steady hand.
  • Cleanse the face thoroughly with a suitable product, removing any makeup. Apply a soothing toner to prepare the skin. Aloe vera, for example, has a particularly soothing effect on the skin.
  • Once the facial cleanser is absorbed and the skin is dry, take the facial razor and gently stroke the skin with it from top to bottom to shave the fine hairs. Use short and quick strokes when doing this.
  • Save pimples and pigmentation spots to avoid injury.

After dermaplaning apply moisturizer to the skin

  • Once you have removed all the hairs, apply another mild moisturizer to prevent skin irritation and soothe the skin.
  • From now on, be sure to use a sunscreen with SPF 30 and factor 50 in summer. The skin is more sensitive after shaving and can quickly burn or form pigment spots due to sun exposure. This also applies to winter!

Argan oil or jojoba oil for easier shaving of facial hair

Tip: The razor blade glides better over the skin if you apply an oil after toner. For dermaplaning, which oil is best? Jojoba and argan oils are really good choices. Just make sure that it is a pure oil!

Dermaplaning only with special tool or eyebrow shaver

Note: Besides using the dermaplaning tool, you can also shave your face with an eyebrow shaver. The home tool looks different from the one in the beauty salon, so don’t be surprised. On the other hand, you should not use the body shaver, whether for men or women.

Dermaplaning – how often repeat?

Are you impressed by this facial shave and would like to include it in your skincare routine? Then you must be wondering how often dermaplaning should be performed. How often should you shave as a woman? Since everyone’s hair grows at different rates, it’s impossible to give an exact amount of time. It usually takes between two and three weeks before the process needs to be repeated. It is best to simply check your hairs regularly yourself in a magnifying mirror to be able to determine the optimal frequency.

What are the disadvantages?

Remove fluff on the face for a more radiant complexion.

By and large, dermaplaning brings disadvantages only in rare cases. Thus, ladies with skin imperfections or sensitive skin should refrain from the method (for example, women with acne, rosacea, neurodermatitis, psoriasis or excema) or at least consult with a dermatologist or visit a cosmetic studio. Women who suffer from thicker and darker facial hairs better resort to other methods, as shaving can cause hairs to grow in and cause pimples and inflammation.
