February is known as the month of love and in a few days it’s that time again – Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. There is probably no other holiday where spirits cut so much – it is either celebrated to the fullest and you have been looking for the perfect gift for your partner for at least a month, or you hate it from the bottom of your heart. For most singles, this is the most dreaded time of the year – often we feel like everyone is in a happy relationship except us. But what if you’ve already found the love of your life? And that is in your best friend? After all, hardly anyone knows you as well as the person to whom you can confide everything at any time. Have you ever heard of Galentine’s Day? It takes place on February 13 and has long become a tradition in America. This day is all about spending quality time with our girls and celebrating our friendship! So do something special this year and learn how to celebrate Galentine’s Day here!
Galentine’s Day is celebrated on February 13, which is the day before Valentine’s Day. Just gather the girls together, have some cocktails and something delicious and have a good time – doesn’t that sound like the perfect day? Because let’s face it – we can live without a partner, but we’re just lost without our girlfriends. After all, they are the ones who support us through all the ups and downs that life brings and are always there for us no matter how difficult things get. Even though the holiday was originally meant for women, it can of course be celebrated by men as well, because they too need friends in their lives. After all, loving our friends is not a matter of gender.
What exactly is Galentine’s Day and how did the holiday come about?
Galentine’s Day became famous through the series “Parks and Recreaion”, when the series character Leslie Knope explains her invention like this: “Every February 13, my girls and I just leave our husbands at home and go full throttle”. The term is a combination of Valentine’s day and the word “gal” – the English word for girlfriend. This holiday is about celebrating the unique bond we have with our best girlfriends – whether we are in a relationship or not. Galentine’s day is a made-up holiday (aren’t all holidays?), but it would still be a super great addition to our calendar. You can celebrate Galentine’s Day however you like – dancing, a karaoke night, a movie night, or a slumber party – anything goes! If February were an ordinary month this year, we’d suggest you get pretty and go out. But unfortunately, in the midst of a lockdown, that’s out of the question. But don’t panic – with our great ideas, you can still celebrate your friendship and have a blast doing it!
Choose a theme for your party
We actually always have fun with our girls, but on February 13 it has to be something special. If you want to celebrate Galentine’s Day, then a cool theme is a must – because that’s the only way the evening will be unforgettable. If you decide on a specific theme, you can focus on the smallest details and decorations and make the meeting even more exciting and fun. At our best friend’s house we always feel like home. Then how about a classic pajama party, for example? Just slip into a comfy pair of pajamas, lie down on the couch while laughing and chatting and gossiping about anything. Or you miss the restaurants and discos? Then ask your girls to put on your best dresses and high heels and make up accordingly. As a joke, lay out a red carpet and welcome them with a glass of champagne.
Celebrate Galentine’s Day: take a cooking class and host a wine tasting.
What can’t be missing from a girls’ night out? Good food and delicious drinks, of course! Instead of ordering something from the pizzeria around the corner, take Galentine’s Day to the next level and take a virtual cooking class! Whether it’s sushi, pasta, or delicious desserts, the choices are vast and a great way to learn something new. What’s more, cooking together is fun and also provides plenty of room for fun conversations. Make things even more interesting and organize a little cooking competition with unfamiliar ingredients to see who is the most creative in the kitchen. Never get enough of wine? Just like wine, friendships get better with time. Toast your friendship with a wine tasting at home. You don’t have to be a professional sommelier for this – it’s enough if everyone likes to drink wine and discover new flavors. And so that you don’t drink on an empty stomach and you can still remember Galentine’s Day tomorrow, don’t forget the snacks. Chocolate, a nicely arranged cheese platter and antipasti will round off the wine experience perfectly.
Organize a game night
Our best friend usually knows us best and we can trust her with our biggest secrets. And yet, party games like “Truth or Dare” are a great way to add some zest to a girls’ night out. Or how about testing how well you actually know each other? Each of you write down 10 questions about yourselves with four possible answers for each question. Then ask each other the questions and write down your answers. When you’re done, count who answered the most questions correctly and the winner gets a bottle of champagne.
How about a girls’ flea market?
It’s a problem all the women in the world know: we have so many clothes hanging in our closet that we haven’t worn in years, but are just too good to throw away. So why not celebrate Galentine’s Day by organizing your own garage sale? Have each of you clean out your closet and take the pieces you’ve already sorted out. Always thought that black dress your friend wore was super chic? Who knows – you might get lucky and finally get it. To make the evening even more fun, you can turn the room into a fashion show and present the pieces you brought along to a song. And speaking of styling, Galentine’s Day would be the perfect time to try out some new makeup looks and beauty trends you don’t otherwise have time for. Do your makeup from a YouTube tutorial, try out complicated nail designs – you can help each other out and laugh at your mishaps together.
You can’t go wrong with a movie night
You’ve probably spent most of the past year in your pajamas or sweatpants. Why should February 13 be any different? Get cozy on the couch and organize a quiet movie night. Cheesy, romantic comedies are just part of a girls’ night out! Make it a little game by watching a romantic drama together and whoever starts crying first loses.
Celebrate Galentine’s Day and organize a fun karaoke evening.
A karaoke party with our best girlfriends in our own homes will provide a lot of fun, believe us! You don’t necessarily need a game console for this – even a laptop or computer will do just fine. You don’t have microphones? Then just take the deodorant bottle! It doesn’t matter if it’s a hit song, hard rock, hip hop or the latest hits – on the Internet you will surely find the right song for each of you! You and your girls are big fans of “Dancing with the Stars”? Then sign up for a virtual dance class and get ready for an unforgettable Galentine’s Day! Dancing is good for our soul and relieves us from tension and stress. Another great way to make the evening special would also be to try out new TikTok trends and fun choreographies.
More great and fun ideas for the perfect Galentine’s day!
- Take a little road trip – Just because the restaurants and bars are closed doesn’t mean you have to spend Galentine’s Day at home. Take a day trip and explore the streets of a small town you’ve always wanted to visit.
- Get pampered – Relaxing together is a great idea to spend Galentine’s Day together. Treat yourself to a nice spa day at home ! Make yourself a foot bath, a homemade face mask or massage each other’s backs. Enjoy a glass of wine while you’re at it and you’ve got yourself a girls’ night out!
- Fun selfies – Granted, we all have hundreds of selfies with our girls already. However, the point now is not to look fancy, but quite the opposite – the group selfie should be as unusual and funny as possible. For example, if you are left-handed, then make up with your right hand. Or try a funny hairstyle – just get as crazy as you like. Every time you look at the photo, it will make you laugh all over again!
- Write love notes to each other – Although you probably do this often enough, Galentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to tell our girlfriends why we love them so much.
- Goodie bags – Want to give your girls something small for the holiday? Then grab a few small bags and fill them with all the things your girlfriends love.
