Beautiful sunflower from clay paper craft project for kids

Even the smallest children can create beautiful motifs with paper. In the so-called crumple technique, colorful paper is crumpled together and glued to a template. As a result, you get great pictures that do not require brushes and paints. Here are instructions with matching template for making a pretty sunflower in summer.

Materials needed:

  • Colorful clay paper (tissue paper and crepe paper also work well).
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Craft glue
  • Popsicle stick or cardboard for the stem
  • Sunflower template

Sunflower craft from paper crumpling technique

Select colored construction paper for the sunflower (yellow and brown paper for the flower and green for the leaf). Cut the selected paper into small square pieces (about 3 x 3 cm is enough).

Gradually crumple the square paper into small balls. Draw the pattern of the sunflower (from the template) on a piece of construction paper or cardboard and cut it out with scissors. You can also cut out the design directly from the template.

Take the brown crumpled balls and glue them on the middle part of the cut out flower pattern. Once you have filled the middle part of the sunflower, add the yellow paper balls to fill the petals.

Prepare green paper and cut out the shape of the leaf (from the template). Fill the cut out leaf with the green beads.

Take a popsicle stick or cut a strip of cardboard as a stem. Attach the sunflower to one end of the stem and glue the leaf under the flower. Let the glue dry and the sunflower is ready.

First, fold the yellow paper in half parallel to the long edge so there is enough room for 2 palm prints. Place the center of the palm on the open edge (as in the picture above). Use a pencil to trace the hand and fingers. Cut out a total of 5 handprint shapes.

Put a small dot of glue on the end of the stick. Place the first paper handprint on the glue with the thumb facing left. Add another small dot of glue to the bottom right of the handprint. Press the second paper handprint onto the dot of glue. Continue adding a small dot of glue to the corner of each handprint and gluing on the next handprint (with all thumbs facing the same direction) until you have completed the circle.

Cut the clay paper to fit 1/4 of the white sheet, and glue it so it lines up with the bottom edge of the paper. Then draw a vase or pot on the clay paper and glue pieces of brown tissue paper on top, making sure the vase is completely covered.

Now cut out three or four egg carton cups. Cut vertically down the sides to the bottom round part. These will represent the petals of the sunflower. Repeat the process for all the egg cartons.

Color the cut out egg cartons with yellow paint or yellow crayon and set aside.

Glue the pipe cleaners to the paper so that they touch the top of the vase. Try to make the stems different lengths.

Glue each egg carton to the top of a pipe cleaner with glue.

Apply some glue to the inside of the egg cartons and sprinkle some of the chocolate flakes on top.
