Probably the easiest way to make a pumpkin out of paper is the origami technique. No cutting, no gluing – just folding according to instructions. You will need origami paper (or cut your own squares of 15 x 15 cm). Optionally, you can still stick faces made of felt, black paper, foam rubber or other material, or draw them with a felt-tip pen. So is folded when you craft this pumpkin with children:

Craft pumpkin with children with a balloon

Pumpkin crafting with children from yarn and with the help of a balloon

Surely you already know the technique with a balloon to get a ball shape. It is perfectly suitable not only for papier-mâché, but also for such a model with yarn. This is what you need when making a pumpkin with balloon with children:

  • Yarn in orange color
  • liquid glue (craft glue or glue, for example)
  • balloon
  • pipe cleaner in brown and green
  • scissors

Glue dry and pull balloon from the ball

Blow up the balloon to the size you want. Cut the yarn into longer pieces, all about the same length. You can now hang the balloon upside down. It will be easier to work with this way. Put the glue in a bowl, take a piece of yarn and dip it in the glue, then place it over the balloon. Do this with the other pieces of yarn to make a nice lattice pattern. How dense you make this is up to you.

Tip: You can also wrap the balloon with plastic wrap beforehand to make it even easier to remove the twine later.

Now let the glue dry well. This can take up to 24 hours. After that, tie the balloon again and gently press it inward here and there to release it from the strings. Then you can pop it with scissors and take it out of the thread grid. Finally, craft stems and vines from the pipe cleaners. For this purpose, just wrap them the wire around your little finger or a pencil to get a spiral shape. Insert the elements into the gaps of the yarn grid and fix with glue, if necessary.

Pumpkin craft with kids to give away with tissue paper and candy

You can make a cute gift box in the shape of a pumpkin from simple tissue paper. It’s so easy to make pumpkin crafts with kids:

  • Tissue paper in orange
  • green or brown tape
  • large, round object to shape
  • scissors, pencil
  • candy to fill

Place two sheets of tissue paper on top of each other and put the selected round object on it. Draw the outline with the pencil and then cut out the circle obtained. Do this carefully, as the individual layers of paper may shift. Then on the circles place the selected candy. Here you will have to experiment a little with the amount and position, depending on the candy. The goal is to still have enough paper left over on the sides to be able to take it to the top and tie it.

Then turn in the protruding part at the top. Prepare a piece of tape and wrap it around the resulting “stem”, which will also give you a pumpkin stem.

Drawing pumpkin made simple

Pumpkins easy drawing with the child or in kindergarten

Pumpkins are quite simple figures, so they can be easily drawn even by children. Above you can see two instructions: the first is also suitable for smaller children, while the second has a three-dimensional effect, which is more something for older children in school, for example. You can omit the carved faces from if you want a simple pumpkin with no reference to Halloween.

Drawing without colors

Instead of using paints paint pumpkins with dough and bake in the microwave

You get a combo of crafting and painting with this original idea. For painting, use a kind of dough made only from natural ingredients, which the kids apply with a brush on paper. You can also help them with the shape by providing a pumpkin template. Use the following ingredients to prepare the mixture that you will then use to paint the pumpkin:

  • 1 tablespoon wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1-2 tsp. turmeric (for a more orange color)
  • 1-2 tbsp. water
  • Paper or cardboard for painting
  • colored pencils for the details
  • black cardboard for the face

Mix only the dry ingredients first, then gradually add the water to get the consistency you want. The mixture should not become too runny so that it does not melt when applied. This flour mixture should also rise a little, which is what the baking powder is for. If this is not the case, you can increase the amount. Now you just need to make sure that the “dough” becomes solid.

To do this, place the paper in the microwave and heat it at 600 watts for 15 to 30 seconds or possibly longer if necessary. You can work in intervals so that the paper does not heat up too much and the edges roll inwards. Then cut out the necessary elements from the black paper and glue them on the dough pumpkin.
