Do you love wind chimes? Every time you hear the soft, tinkling sound, you think of a relaxing day at the beach. Not only do they look great, they sound wonderful too! They can be made with so many things – the possibilities are many and you can let your imagination run wild to create beautiful designs with different materials.  You can easily make wind chimes and have a lot of fun doing it. Wind chimes with natural materials

You can make really beautiful wind chimes with natural materials

What you need:

air-drying clay
rolling pin
scissors
paintbrush
plant remains like pine
Acrylic paint
Old cotton cloth
Jute string or cotton rope
Straw
Twig or driftwood

Let your imagination run wild to create beautiful designs

  • Place a ball of clay on a work surface or table and roll it to the desired thickness with a rolling pin.
  • Select leaves or botanical feathers and press them onto the clay. Make sure they make a good indentation in the clay.
  • Carefully remove the leaf from the clay and cut it out with scissors.
  • Repeat this process until you have the desired number of pieces.
  • Using a straw, poke a hole in the top of each mold and allow to dry completely overnight.
  • Once the clay is completely dry, paint on a light coat of the desired color with a brush, making sure it fills the grooves of the impression.
  • Continue this process until all of your pieces are finished, and let them dry for 30 minutes.
  • Take a piece of double yarn or cotton rope and tie a knot at each end of the branch.
  • Tie some yarn through the hole in the clay piece and tie it around the branch. Repeat the process with all the pieces.

Supplies:

Yarn
8 cm golden macramé rings
4 cm large golden macramé rings
Fishing line
Golden split rings
Scissors
Chimes

  • Measure and cut 8 x 300 cm pieces of yarn. Cut a 150 cm piece and 1 x 80 cm piece.
  • Place the eight long pieces in a row, find the center and fold them so you have 16 pieces of yarn to knot.
  • Attach the ribbon a few inches from the top to form a loop. Set aside the two remaining pieces of yarn.
  • Begin to cover the loop with lark’s head knots. Start at the top and work down one side, then repeat the process on the other side.
  • Using the two remaining pieces of yarn, tie a wrap knot to secure the loop. Cut off the excess yarn.
  • Divide the yarn into four groups of four and begin tying the knot.

  • Add the large rings to pull the strands apart with a square knot.
  • When you are finished tying the knot, tie the strands in a knot and trim off the excess.
  • Attach the chimes to the split rings and pin them to the macramé ring.
  • Tie the small macramé ring to the fishing line and attach it to the loop at the top of the hanger. So easy to make this creative and elegant wind chime yourself !

Colorful garden decoration make with children

Contact paper
Scissors
Marker or pen
Rings from canning jar lids
String (yarn also works)
A sturdy stick
Leaves, flowers from plants

  • Cut a small piece of contact paper and draw the rings of the canning jars on the side of the contact paper.
  • Then peel the protective film off the contact paper and tap it on the surface with the sticky side up.
  • You can make this wind chime with children. Give the kids the leaves and flowers you found and let them fill in these circles.
  • If the flower is closed or bell shaped, you can cut it open to fan it out.
  • Complete the suncatchers with another piece of contact paper.
  • Press them as flat as you can and tape the contact paper anywhere you can.
  • Then cut them out, along the circles.
  • Tie a knot around the rings with the string and just slide the suncatcher circles inside.
  • Then tie the strings to a stick as well to make a wind chime that you can hang on your balcony or in the garden.

Spray paint
Wood
Metal washers
Beads
String

  • Paint the metal washers with spray paint and then spray them with a clear varnish.
  • Drill holes in a piece of wood and tie the metal washers and beads together with strong string. Make as many rows as you like.
    How beautiful they are! We just love that they all glow in bright colors.

Make wind chimes with shells

Materials needed:

Various shells
Fishing line
Scissors
White spray paint
Metal wreath molds
Wire
Pliers
Split key ring (for hanging)
Beads
small hand drill

You can easily make wind chimes and have a lot of fun doing it

  • Paint the metal wreath form to match the shells. Let it dry.
  • Make sure you have drilled holes in all the shells.
  • Cut a piece of heavy-duty fishing line and thread on the beads.
  • When you hang the shells on the string, you will need to feed the string back through the hole by wrapping the string around itself twice and then tightening it. Repeat this process to keep the shell in place.

  • Make sure the last shell or bead has the locking surgeon’s knot. Then cut the ends of the fishing line.
