Where there is light, there is also shadow – more and more celebrities are opening up and talking about the dark hours in their lives in interviews or via social media. A life of which we usually only know the bright, shining side in the spotlight. The most recent example is supermodel Bella Hadid, who reports on her very personal ordeal on Instagram.
The inspiration for sharing her personal story was Willow Smith (21), says Bella Hadid. The daughter of superstar Will Smith had spoken in an interview über Äangst and insecurities. Bella Hadid posted excerpts of it and took Smith‘ s honest words as an opportunity to share her own struggle with depression with her nearly 50 million Instagram followers.
Bella Hadid über burnouts and depression
The supermodel’s words were backed up with a series of photos showing Bella Hadid in tears and despair – a state that has been part of her everyday life for several years now, according to the 25-year-old. "It took me a long time, but by now I’ve had enough meltdowns and burnouts to know: If you just work hard enough on yourself, spend time alone to understand your traumas, your trigger points, your joys and your routines, you learn a lot "about your own pain and how to deal with it." In 2012, it was revealed that Bella Hadid suffers from chronic Lyme disease, just like her brother Anwar and her mother Yolanda. She had to give up her dream of becoming a professional equestrian because of it.
She found it increasingly difficult not to share her personal story with the world, Gigi Hadid’s little sister continued. Her central message to all those who have to deal with similar issues: “Sometimes it just helps to know that you are not alone in this." And: Social media is not reality – behind filters and perfect poses there is often a completely different truth.
